1. Overview of the afternoon knowledge section

  • Dr. Susie Swan was the host. Watch now (entire afternoon session is 1 hour & 27 minutes)
  • Profound Maharishi talk ‘Vedic Medicine is the best cure’ 27 April 2005
  • Dr. John Hagelin gave a lucid PowerPoint presentation on creating coherence in the US through the practice of ‘online group TM’ and also National Yagya. He expressed warm appreciation for our National Yagya support globally. This extra coherence will contribute to a smooth upcoming US election process. This video was pre-recorded. Watch now (9 minutes)
  • Nowhere to Hide Prof Fagan showed this short video. Watch now (4 minutes)

Prof Fagan gave an inspiring presentation about food safety and food purity Watch now (23 minutes)

Q&As for Professor Fagan that were texted to us during the afternoon session.

Q. How do we know that food is truly organic if there is no reliable testing

Answer from Professor Fagan One of the weaknesses of organic is that they only use traceability and inspections to assure compliance with the standard. This system works well if farmers and food companies are honest, which most are. We have started a new certification that adds testing on top of organic, called “Tested Clean”, which addresses the concern that you raise and the possibility that there has been contamination of organic by nearby conventional pesticide drift or residuals in the soil. We have set up testing for food purity at Maharishi’s encouragement. He felt it would give people more confidence and comfort regarding their food.

Q. How do you rate the credibility of Greenpeace?

Answer from Professor Fagan The biotech industry and their media have a tendency to dramatize and exaggerate their response to critics, so you may have been impacted by that in your evaluation of Greenpeace. I have worked with them for 25 years and find them strictly ethical in what they do and never violent. They may strike terror into the heart of those who are exploiting the environment of the underprivileged, but they speak truth and create opportunities for industry and government and citizens to improve their behavior toward our beleaguered planet and its vulnerable species and people. It is true that they use peaceful civil disobedience in some of their campaigns, but then so did Gandhi and Martin Luther King and many other leaders in our world, as sometimes there is no other way to bring attention to an issue. Those working on this gene edited GMO detection project have been brilliant, systematic, rigorous and balanced in their approach. Read the Wikipedia page on GreenPeace and you will find a fair representation of the organization and their activities and impact.

For a global organization that has catalyzed much progress in the environment and human rights, you will find little to disapprove of. Maharishi had great respect for leaders who took on issues that improve the lot of humanity. Maharishi Science and Technology, particularly collective practice of the TM and TM Sidhis Program, and Yagyas enliven collective consciousness so that progress can be made more quickly and smoothly on the many issues that challenge humanity today, and these also ensure that movement is more in a progressive direction. Every time we transcend, we open the door more for progress and every time we transcend, we help ensure that change that takes place is in the most progressive direction possible. We are fortunate to have this powerful modality through which to support evolutionary progress in all areas of life.

Q. There are some who say that soaking the produce in either salt water, or vinegar water, or baking soda water will get rid of up to 80% of the pesticides. Is this at all the case?

Answer from Professor Fagan It probably will not reduce pesticides that much, because many of them are absorbed into the plant and are transported through the plant’s circulatory system to virtually every cell. But washing with these will remove at least some of the pesticides on the surface.

Q. Prof. Fagan spoke about something we could sign. Could you please elaborate on that paper or research.

Answer from Professor Fagan We just published a paper that has had a big positive effect, stirring the discussion about gene-edited GMOs. You can learn a lot about this at the website for the campaign:
https://www.detect-gmo.org/

Of course the most important thing you can do to make sure that our food stays safe and pure is to participate in collective practice of the TM and TM-Sidhis program and support Yagyas.

Q. Atganic and in the UK the soil association will not declare items from Africa as organic because of the air travel. Organic labels are not to be believed as being good for you.

Answer from Professor Fagan Organic is not perfect, but is a better source of pure, safe, healthy food than other alternatives, except if you grow the food yourself and test your soil to make sure it does not carry residual pesticides or other environmental pollutants from past uses of the land. The Soil Association is one of the strictest organic certifiers. The part of the Soil Association standard that you refer to is that SA considers food that is shipped thousands of miles not to be sustainable because of the impact on energy consumption and climate change. There are plenty of other certifiers whose standards are not quite as strict who are ready to certify the imports. So Soil Association is not harming the less developed countries, just educating the UK population about climate change. Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture is designed very specifically to nourish and uplift farmers and rural populations in the developing world. Farmers trained in MVOA produce food that is more nourishing than even organic foods, and can fetch a better price in the marketplace, thereby supporting farming families more effectively. MVOA gives developing world farmers access to premium markets in North America, the EU, Japan, Australia and other wealthy areas of the world. MVOA creates a virtuous circle for developing world farmers: incorporating TM into their lives, and incorporating the other modalities of Maharishi Vedic Science and Technology into the lives of their families and communities. The farmers and their communities become more effective in their work, their livelihoods improve and the resulting financial stability supports them more and they make further use of Maharishi’s Technologies thus uplifting their consciousness. The effectiveness of their action advances even more resulting in enlightened farmers, enlightened communities, enlightened, invincible nations, and peace, love and happiness for all.

Q. What is the connection between Covid and genetic modification?

Answer from Professor Fagan There is a great deal of controversy about the origins of Covid. Probably we will never know all the details because of lack of transparency. The important thing is to take the precautions that medical experts are recommending. Masks, social distancing, maintaining a life-style that supports a healthy body and especially healthy immune system. It is true that “gain of function” research can create serious risks that reach far beyond the research laboratory. For that reason, it is best to support initiatives that are trying to bring control to that area of research. Again, enlivening collective consciousness through our TM and TM-Sidhi program, and yagyas,

Q. In Germany there is the company is called Gen-ethisches Netzwerk in Berlin: www.gen-ethisches-netzwerk.de. This company is also working for healthy food and they talk about the TTIP. Do you have some points about this?

Answer from Professor Fagan I don’t know this group directly, but they sound like a good ally! TTIP and other trade agreements are often better for the multinationals than for the citizens because they tend to reduce food quality and safety standards. I know that this is the case with the current negotiations between the US and the UK. The US is demanding that many standards that are currently protecting UK consumers will be put aside, resulting in unlabeled GMOs and gene-edited foods and heavily processed foods. Two that have been in the news in the UK are chlorinated chicken and hormone treated pork. These are not so relevant to most of us, but still they are indicators of the low standards in the US. What we need is to protect the cultural integrity of each nation. Enlivening collective consciousness through TM and TM Sidhi program and Yagya is the most effective thing we can do to protect cultural integrity, including integrity of the food system.

Video – ‘Nowhere to Hide’
Click here to go directly to Vimeo to see the movie about the first open source detection test for a gene-edited GM crop. The video is called ‘Nowhere to Hide’. A group of non-governmental organisations, non-GMO food associations and a food retailer, announced that the first-ever public detection method for a gene-edited crop has been successfully developed and published. The new research refutes claims by the biotech industry and some regulators that new genetically modified (GM) crops engineered with gene editing are indistinguishable from similar, non-GM crops and therefore cannot be regulated.
