1. Understanding the source

One of the many great gifts of the Vedic tradition is that specific favourable influences and qualities can be enlivened in our lives through recitations by Vedic Pandits; for example, for good health, intelligence, happiness, or protection. UNESCO has declared Vedic recitation as an intangible heritage of humanity. Below there is an audio recording—the profoundly settling example of Ganesh recitation—by Maharishi Vedic Pandits for you to enjoy.

2. Extensive training in vedic performance

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is widely recognized as the world’s foremost Vedic scholar and scientist of consciousness of the modern era. In villages and regional training centers all around India, Maharishi created a network of instruction for students wishing to become Maharishi Vedic Pandits. The students follow a systematic and detailed training program designed by Maharishi to ensure that every Pandit receives a high and standardized level of training. From the age of 10 to 20—and beyond, through a full PhD programme—they follow a special course of study that includes learning the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programme as well as Yogic Flying, the 40 aspects of Ved and the Vedic literature, and gaining proficiency in performing Yagyas.

4. Vedic Recitation and the Physiology

Neuroscientist and researcher Dr. Fred Travis, Director of the Centre for Brain, Consciousness and Cognition, MIU, Fairfield, Iowa, USA has been performing research on the effects on brain functioning when listening to Vedic recitation. His published research paper (download the paper here) indicates that when practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation technique listen to Vedic recitation it can culture the dual experience of deep inner silence along with specific localized awareness characterized by lively silence. This objective research confirms the subjective experience of thousands of Meditators.

Below is an experience from a person who attended a course where there was the incredible opportunity to listen to live recitations by the Maharishi Vedic Pandits. You can read more experiences here.

“Listening to the Vedic recitation by the Maharishi Vedic Pandits is a totally unique experience which
enlivens the deepest level of consciousness with bliss and fulfillment while simultaneously
purifying and strengthening the physiology.” BB – United States

5. Maharishi explains transcending and Vedic Recitation

In this short audio recording Maharishi describes that transcending and listening to Vedic recitation ‘… are inseparable …’.
The difference between practicing TM and listening to Vedic recitation. (Audio 4:42 min)

“Vedic sounds, they are very, very beautiful. Very beautiful.
Beautiful means Total Natural Law reverberates in those sounds. That’s why our whole programme is to create and maintain the life of these Vedic Pandits in a nice manner, so that what they recite – the Vedic recitations – they have that genuineness of the silence reverberating. Atma reverberating in Itself. That is the basis of evolution in action. Basis of evolution is silence – silence in action, silence in action, silence in action. That is our, we could say, main point of our theme of redressing the stress-ridden world consciousness through the Vedic recitations. Vedic recitations would mean redressing the topsy-turvy, disturbed value of the fundamental field of reverberations.”

Maharishi – Press Conference, January 15, 2003
