Today, many people think of yoga as a form of physical exercise.
However, the original Sanskrit word Yoga means unity; referring to
the natural experience of life lived in unity, peace and harmony. Yoga
dawns from the experience of the underlying unified level of inner awareness or transcendental consciousness.

This timeless understanding and experience of Yoga is therefore the
key to creating peace, since true and lasting peace can only be created
from the level in which it naturally and eternally already exists – the
unbounded state of Transcendental Consciousness.

Each peace-creating expert, or Vedic Pandit, is experienced in the subjective technology of transcending – allowing the mind to settle down deep inside until it transcends thought altogether. The mind then is fully awake, but undisturbed by specific thoughts or perceptions. This is a state of restful alertness – the experience of Transcendental Consciousness, which all people can experience easily through the practice of Transcendental Meditation.

The results of regular daily experience of Transcendental Consciousness are profound: for the individual it leads to growth in all areas of life. Practiced in groups, it produces a measurable influence of peace and harmony throughout society.

1. Scientific verification of Transcendental Consciousness

In Vedic science the experience of this quietest, most coherent state of functioning during Transcendental Consciousness is said to be a fourth major state of consciousness, measurably different from the three common states of waking, sleeping and dreaming. In recent decades, a large body of research has verified this from the standpoint of western science, identifying Transcendental Consciousness as a unique style of functioning of mind and physiology – that fourth major state of consciousness.

Hundreds of rigorous scientific studies* have shown that regular experience of Transcendental Consciousness produces rapid and cumulative benefits for the individual, including reduced anxiety, increased creativity and intelligence, enhanced psychological maturity (to levels rarely seen in the research literature), and improved physical health (including 76% less major surgery, 55% less cancer, and 87% less heart disease).

The Transcendental Meditation programme

The research defining Transcendental Consciousness and its benefits has been performed on practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation technique (TM) founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Because the TM technique is natural and effortless, because it is taught uniformly around the world, and because it reliably produces the benefits of Transcendental Consciousness, millions of people have learned the practice (more than two million in the United States).

2. The advanced TM-Sidhi programme

The TM-Sidhi programme cultures the ability to think and act from Transcendental Consciousness (as above). It accelerates individual growth toward the total potential of human functioning, the state of enlightenment. More importantly, when practised in groups, the TM-Sidhi programme and Yogic Flying are shown to have a powerful effect of defusing societal stress and tension, creating peace in whole populations – city, state, nation, and even the whole world.

Yogic Flying – the most powerful aspect of the TM-Sidhi programme

TM-Sidhi programme including Yogic Flying

Yogic flying is the most powerful aspect of the TM-Sidhi programme for both the individual and for society. The experience of deep inner coherence along with a sense of lightness in the physiology precedes the experience of Yogic Flying. During the first stage of Yogic Flying one feels full of energy, springing forward in short hops. The subjective experience is commonly described not just as inner peace, but as exhilaration, lightness, and an intense happiness known as ‘bubbling bliss’.

Yogic Flying indicates increased coherence

As explained in the Vedic science of consciousness, Yogic Flying develops the ability of the individual to act from the ground state of natural law (understood scientifically as the Unified Field). The mind-body coordination displayed in Yogic Flying shows improved correlation between consciousness and its expression, the physiology.

Since increased brain wave coherence is one indication of Transcendental Consciousness, it is significant that EEG studies have shown that during Yogic Flying coherence in brain wave activity reaches a peak at the moment the body lifts up.

3. Research on the group practice

Research also shows that group practice of Transcendental Meditation and the advanced programmes including Yogic Flying is the single most effective programme for generating a society-wide influence of peace. The increase in brain wave coherence in the individual is reflected as increased coherence in social behaviour – as measured by reduced crime, terrorism and war. These results are easily reproducible and have been extensively validated through rigorous, peer-reviewed scientific research.

The influence of the meditating group travels through an underlying field – in the same way that you can hear a live radio programme broadcast from the other side of the world. In the one case, the electromagnetic field links the radio station and your radio. In the other example, the field of consciousness links the meditator to the rest of the population. Waves of coherence from the peace-creating group spread throughout the field of consciousness, producing a beneficial and measurable influence throughout society.

4. Yoga (transcending) and the Vedic Pandit’s performance of Yagya

The practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique and the TM Sidhis including Yogic Flying are an essential daily part of the lives of the Maharishi Vedic Pandits. It is on this basis that their daily occupation of performing Maharishi Yagya – recitations for peace – are maximally effective.

Through their deep and regular experience of transcending, the Maharishi Vedic Pandits amplify the positive effects of Transcendental Consciousness for the benefit of the whole world. Through Yoga, the Pandits are enlivening the evolutionary power of natural law, increasing positive trends of health, happiness, and prosperity for all nations.
